Benefits

How will therapy improve my life & well-being?

Therapy is a valuable tool that can help you to solve problems, deal with life stressors, set and achieve new goals, improve your communication skills, and teach you new ways to track your emotions and keep your stress levels in check. It can help you to build the life, career, and relationships that you want.

Physical Benefits

Just as physical fitness helps our bodies to stay strong, mental fitness helps us to achieve and sustain a state of good mental health. When we are mentally healthy, we can enjoy our life and environment, and the people in it. We are able to be creative, learn, try new things, and take risks. In turn we are better able to cope with challenging times in both our personal and professional lives. We may feel the sadness, anger or hopelessness that can come with the death of a loved one, a job loss or relationship problems and other difficult events, but in time, we are able to get on with and enjoy our lives once again.

Nurturing our mental health can also help us combat or prevent the mental health problems that are sometimes associated with a chronic physical illness. In some cases, it can prevent the onset or relapse of a physical or mental illness. Managing stress can have a significant impact on physical well being.

Cognitive Benefits

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on how people think rather then what they do. CBT uses techniques that challenge negative, unhealthy, or dysfunctional thinking in turn changing how an individual would act in negative, unhealthy, or dysfunctional ways. By changing the thoughts and thought patterns of the individual, cognitive therapy can then change the behaviors.

Emotional Benefits

Emotional health takes work. It involves attending to and fine-tuning thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The benefits of creating and maintaining wellbeing is worth the effort. Defining and living your emotional health leads to positive change and personal growth, a healthy sense of self-confidence, a peaceful sense of healing and recovery from mental health challenges, and a sense of hope.

Whether one uses the term emotional health or mental health isn't important. What is important is understanding what this wellness means to you and then using the knowledge to shape your healthy life. A workable definition of emotional health as a life concept is a state of wellbeing, resilience, and recovery from mental health problems and/or stress that leads to a life worth living.
